Kent & East Sussex Railway (Reportage)

Project documenting the preserved railway in Tenterden. I was experimenting with photoshop and illustrator today and here is some of the results (obviously the first image is a mix of some stuff i posted last week, although tweaked up slightly) . It's going well so far, enjoying it thoroughly. I've also met the very friendly staff and volunteers. My thanks to them for their help and co-operation so far.

Summer Project (Car Studies)

Sorry, its been a while since i've posted anything (internet in this part of the world isn't great). Anyhow, i went to Belgium last month and during that time i paid a visit to the Autoworld Museum in Brussels, a great place to get some studies of period motor cars for the "Grapes of Wrath" project. Heres some of the sketchbook work.

Summer Project (more again)

Just a few more concept images from the summer project in progress, i'm illustrating a passage from "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck. Been working from both life and photographic references. The aim of the project is to create a sense of place in the final three images.

Summer Project

I know, its been a while since i've updated the blog due to lack of a decent internet connection. Fear not, iv'e been doing work as part of a summer project to illustrate a passage from a novel. I've chosen "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck. Here are a few concept and research illustrations iv'e been doing. Nothing is final yet but im working quite a bit with oil paint for this project, i guess trying to improve the use of color in my work. Looking at the american illustrators of the early twentieth century for the right mood and inspiration. More to be added later and it should hopefully become clearer about what im trying to achieve with this project.

Animal Transformation

Done as part of a one week drawing exercise. I chose the American bison. Not particularly happy with the final transformation but it was an enjoyable project.

Otis Redding

Made this today thought it worked really well in conveying a "southern gothic" atmosphere.

Otis Redding

Heres something i came up with after messing about with photoshop today. I've decided to set my story at Otis Reddings funeral. This is not the final work but rather an experimental piece.

Book Jacket project

One of these may be the final book cover for this project. It conveys the idea of Johnny Bear as a human gramophone. I've also based it on the Saturday Evening Post covers done by Norman Rockwell in the 20's and 30's, which in my opinion along with the grammaphone gives a sense of time and location. Please help me reach a conclusion, comment.
